Here’s one of my favorite recipes.  Its simple and fun. And who doesn’t love Fried Green Tomatoes.  I know I do.  You’re in for a real treat with this one.


Fried Green Tomatoes


1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large whole eggs, beaten

1/2 cup yellow cornmeal

6 green tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick

1 cup vegetable oil

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon of onion powder

Kosher salt to taste



Place the flour, eggs, and cornmeal with spices in 3 separate bowls, dredged the tomatoes in the flour dry mixture, in the eggs and finally in the spiced cornmeal mixture, pressing gently to help it adhere.

Heat the oil in a large pot over high heat, while working in small batches, cook the tomatoes until golden brown, 2 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel–lined baking sheet. Season with salt while the tomatoes are still warm and before serving.
